The province’s top doctor and premier say they’re keeping an eye on what happens in New Brunswick.
Officials in New Brunswick have re-opened their province with no isolation to anyone from the Atlantic region; they’ve also re-opened to anyone from the rest of the country who’s had at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
The other three Atlantic provinces only re-open their borders to Atlantic residents Wednesday; provincial officials here have said they plan to re-open to the rest of the country no later than July 14.
Dr. Robert Strang, the province’s chief medical officer of health, says they’ll watch how things play out in New Brunswick.
“They certainly are introducing a higher level of risk into their province,” he says. “We’re watching carefully the potential impacts on their province, because that has implications for us.”
We had 14 new cases Thursday.
Strang says our case numbers remain low, but they’re noticing more contacts among the new cases.
“It’s a good reminder that while we cautiously open, people need to limit the number of close contacts that we have, keeping them small, and keeping them consistent.”
Nine recoveries leave us with 97 active cases province-wide.
Six people are in hospital, including three in intensive care.
