Lucky the cat. Via Rose Hawley post on Meta
In July of this year, visitors from New York were in Cape Breton. Sara Tadayyon was one of those visitors and she was traveling with her cat Lucky.
They stopped at the Tourist Bureau in Port Hastings. Sara would let Lucky out of the car on a harness when they made stops like this. Unfortunately, this time, it went wrong and Lucky slipped out of the harness.
Attempts to find the cat were unsuccessful despite local volunteers, both individuals and rescue organizations, dedicating countless hours towards the goal of finding Lucky.
Cameras were set up, live traps, posters distributed and social media posts shared but still Lucky continued to evade them.
Last weekend, almost 4 months since the cat disappeared, everything changed. Below is an excerpt from a social media post, outlining what happened:
On November 22, after sightings of Lucky at a location near where she went missing, Richard Beaton contacted Sara, and we formed a Facebook group to coordinate our efforts. Salim Zaghloul, a foster and trapper with our rescue, set the trap, and Lucky was safely captured. I had left my chip scanner with Salim, and he scanned Lucky, confirming her identity. It was Lucky .She was hungry but in good shape considering her ordeal.
Sara, who was traveling with her parents from Halifax and she resides in New York was overjoyed to receive the news, and we are thrilled to have played a part in reuniting her with her beloved pet. The outpouring of gratitude on social media has been heartwarming, and we are grateful for the support.
Lucky remained with Salim, receiving the care and attention she needed, and has since been reunited with Sara’s parents and will reunite with Sara.. This is a true Christmas miracle, and we are honored to have been a part of it. Sara has generously made a donation to our rescue in gratitude for our efforts, and we are thankful for her kindness.
This story is a testament to the power of perseverance, compassion, and community. We are proud to have played a part in bringing Lucky home, and we look forward to continuing our work in helping animals in need.
